REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - PT PLN Coal Trading (PLN BBN), a subsidiary of Subholding PT PLN Primary Energy Indonesia (PLN EPI), recorded a remarkable 464 percent growth in coal sales volume throughout 2022.

CEO of PLN EPI, Iwan Agung Firstantara, explained that the outstanding performance of PLN BBN was the result of company efficiency and market expansion efforts, which have supported healthy financial performance.

"The achievement throughout 2022 demonstrates that the business transformation undertaken by the PLN Group has been able to contribute more effectively," said Iwan in Jakarta on Thursday (3/8/2023).

Iwan elaborated that the business lines undertaken by PLN EPI's subsidiaries serve as additional sources of strength for the company to enhance operational and financial performance. These beyond kWh sectors are crucial in supporting PLN EPI's revenue beyond kWh. Strengthening these sectors is a mandate from the Holding to continually bolster its operations.

"We maintain resilient operational performance to not only secure the primary energy supply but also to develop businesses that strengthen the company's structure," added Iwan in an official statement.

Through PLN BBN, Iwan added that PLN EPI has strengthened its ability to maintain the coal supply chain from upstream to power plants. This robust supply chain ensures the reliability of power plant operations.

"Together with the Holding and the government, we directly monitor the coal supply chain through digital systems. We have revamped contract and shipping systems to further guarantee the supply of coal to power plants," added Iwan.

Kanapi Subur Dwiyanto, CEO of PLN BBN, explained that PLN BBN's role is to ensure the security of coal supply to the PLN Group. The business development efforts have resulted in a sales volume realization of 2.7 million metric tons, growing by 464 percent compared to 2021.

The realized coal supply to PLN Group's Steam Power Plants (PLTU) in 2022 was 992 thousand metric tons, while to Independent Power Producers (IPP) it was 1.5 million metric tons.

"We ensure that the coal supply to power plants is well-maintained. Not only is the supply chain guaranteed, but we also ensure the quality of coal delivered to the plants," said Kanapi.

In addition to IPPs and the PLN Group, another driver of coal sales volume growth in the past year was sales to non-electricity industries amounting to 1.1 million metric tons. This realization grew by an impressive 1,535 percent compared to 2021.

From these achievements, the company wrapped up revenues totaling IDR 2.41 trillion in 2022. The company also reported a net profit of IDR 146.39 billion, a growth of 1,040 percent compared to 2021, supporting the growth of PLN EPI's performance and the Holding's performance in 2022.

Kanapi also explained that following the formation of the Holding and Subholding within PLN (Persero), PLN Coal Trading has become more agile in business development. This was evident throughout 2022, as the company expanded its coal trading business by adding customers not only among IPPs but also in non-electricity industries.

"This expansion of business wings has boosted the company's revenue and profit in 2022," emphasized Kanapi.

In the current year, the company remains committed to maintaining its performance and achieving even better results than in 2022. Simultaneously, the company continues to uphold the security of coal supply to power plants.
