PT PLN Batubara Niaga made its inaugural coal shipment to the Jawa-7 Steam Power Plant (PLTU) in Cilegon, Banten on September 1, 2020. This subsidiary of PT PLN Batubara focuses on coal trading to supply Independent Power Producer (IPP) steam power plants.
Coal unloading operations commenced on Saturday, September 5, 2020. During this event, the Directors of PT PLN Batubara and PT PLN Batubara Niaga conducted inspections at the Jawa-7 PLTU jetty area and the coal vessel.
Established on August 2, 2019, PLN Batubara was set up to supply IPP steam power plants and industries.
Jawa-7 PLTU Unit 2 has a capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW). Construction of Jawa-7 Unit 2 began in September 2016 and is scheduled to commence commercial operations (Commercial Operate Date/COD) this year. Jawa-7 Unit 1, with a capacity of 1,000 MW, has been operational since December 13, 2019.
Jawa-7 PLTU holds strategic importance as Indonesia's first and largest PLTU, utilizing new ultra-supercritical boiler technology with low-calorific coal, ranging from 4,000 to 4,600 kcal/kg AR. This technology was chosen for its high efficiency and environmental friendliness, a first of its kind in Indonesia.
The Jawa-7 project is developed by PT Shenhua Guohua Jawa Bali Power Generation (SGPJB), established on January 13, 2016. SGPJB is a consortium between China Shenhua Energy Company Limited and PT PJBI, with ownership shares of 70% and 30% respectively. PT PJBI is a subsidiary of PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), itself a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero).
Financial close for the Jawa-7 PLTU was achieved on September 29, 2016, eight days ahead of the schedule stipulated in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
