Press Release PLN EPI No. 034.PR/STH.06.01/PLNEPI0102/VIII/2023
Jakarta, August 3, 2023 - PT PLN Batubara Niaga (PLN BBN), a subsidiary of Sub Holding PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), achieved a 464% growth in coal sales volume throughout 2022. The business line outside the electricity sector has become a significant revenue contributor beyond kWh for PLN EPI.
Iwan Agung Firstantara, CEO of PLN EPI, attributed PLN BBN's outstanding performance in 2022 to company efficiency and market expansion efforts, supporting strong financial performance.
"The outstanding achievement in 2022 is evidence that the business transformation within PLN Group has significantly improved our contributions," said Iwan.
He explained that PLN EPI's subsidiary business lines provide additional strength to the company, enhancing operational and financial performance. The beyond kWh sector is a strategic mandate of the holding company aimed at further strengthening its position.
"We maintain operational resilience to not only ensure security of energy supply but also to develop business and strengthen company structures," added Iwan.
Through PLN BBN, Iwan emphasized that PLN EPI has strengthened its coal supply chain from upstream to power plants, ensuring reliable power generation.
"Together with the holding company and government, we directly monitor the coal supply chain via digital systems. We have revamped contract and shipping systems to enhance coal supply reliability to power plants," added Iwan.
Kanapi Subur Dwiyanto, CEO of PLN BBN, highlighted the company's role in ensuring coal supply security to PLN Group. Business expansion efforts led to a 464% increase in sales volume, reaching 2.7 million metric tons in 2022 compared to 2021.
Coal supply realization to PLN Group's steam power plants (PLTU) in 2022 amounted to 992 thousand metric tons, while to Independent Power Producers (IPP) it totaled 1.5 million metric tons.
"We ensure coal supply for power plants remains secure. Beyond supply chain reliability, we also ensure the coal delivered to power plants meets quality standards," said Kanapi.
Apart from IPPs and PLN Group, coal sales growth in 2022 was boosted by sales to non-electricity industries, totaling 1.1 million metric tons, a 1,535% increase from 2021.
These achievements resulted in a revenue of IDR 2.41 trillion for the company in 2022, with a net profit of IDR 146.39 billion, a 1,040% increase from 2021, supporting the growth of PLN EPI and the holding company in 2022.
Kanapi also noted that since the formation of the holding and sub-holding within PLN, PLN Batubara Niaga has become more agile in expanding its coal trading business. Throughout 2022, the company expanded its customer base, not only among IPPs but also non-electricity industries.
"This business expansion has significantly increased the company's revenue and profit in 2022," emphasized Kanapi.
In the current year, the company remains committed to maintaining strong performance, aiming to achieve results as good as or better than those in 2022. Simultaneously, it continues to ensure the security of coal supply to power plants.
